Rose Gold

Also called Also called pink gold, red gold, 18k rose gold, 14k rose gold, rose gold alloy

Rose gold is gold alloyed with copper, often with a little silver, which shifts its color from yellow toward pink. It is real gold: 18k rose gold is 75 percent gold, the same as 18k yellow, and the copper share decides how pink or red the finished piece looks.

What Rose Gold is Made Of?

Rose gold composition is set by karat first and copper second. The gold content is fixed by the karat, 75 percent at 18k and 58.5 percent at 14k, and the rest is mostly copper, with a small share of silver to soften the tone.

More copper means a redder metal. A common 18k rose gold is roughly 75 percent gold, 22 percent copper, and 3 percent silver. Push the copper to the full 25 percent and the trade calls it red gold. Add more silver and it drifts toward a paler pink gold. There is no single standard recipe, so two casters selling 18k rose gold can deliver visibly different pinks.

Karat changes the color as well. A 14k piece carries far more copper than an 18k one, so 14k rose gold usually reads pinker and stronger, while 18k sits warmer and closer to yellow.

  • Red gold: the most copper, deepest color
  • Rose gold: copper with a little silver, the middle shade
  • Pink gold: more silver, the palest of the three

Rose Gold vs Yellow Gold

At the same karat they hold exactly the same amount of gold. The difference is the other quarter of the metal at 18k. Yellow gold balances silver and copper to keep the natural color, and rose gold tips that balance heavily toward copper.

Copper makes rose gold slightly harder than yellow gold of the same karat, so it holds up well in rings and resists scratching a little better. The same copper can darken the surface slowly over years, a warmer patina rather than tarnish, and a polish brings it back. Neither color needs plating to look finished, which is the main practical gap between both of them and white gold.

Price is close, because gold content drives the cost and copper is cheap. The hallmark does not separate them either: 750 means 18k and 585 means 14k, whatever the color, so nothing in the stamp says rose.

What is Rose Gold Plating?

Rose gold plating is a thin layer of rose gold alloy deposited over a cheaper base, usually brass, sterling silver, or stainless steel. The surface looks like solid rose gold, but the piece underneath is not gold, and the plating wears through at edges and contact points with daily use.

When the base is sterling silver and the layer meets a set minimum thickness, the piece is sold as vermeil rather than plated jewelry. Solid rose gold has no layer to wear off, which is why it can be polished, resized, and repaired in a way plated pieces cannot.

What Rose Gold Means for a Render?

Rose gold is the metal most easily pushed off color by lighting. A warm environment turns it orange and close to yellow gold, a cool one turns it salmon or brown. White gold hides a weak lighting setup behind neutral gray, but rose gold shows every shift, which is why budget renders so often get it wrong.

Tell us the karat and, if you have one, a photo of your caster's rose gold. That is the honest limit of any render: we match a reference, but without one the image shows a standard rose gold that may be pinker or redder than your alloy, and a buyer's phone screen will shift it again. Rose gold jewelry is the category where a reference photo matters most.

From one CAD file, an order returns 9 HD images at 3000 x 3000 px or larger, 3 of them in rose gold alongside white and yellow, plus a rose gold video. Every metal comes from the same model at no extra charge, so a customer comparing colors on a product page sees the same piece three times.

Questions about Rose Gold

Is rose gold real gold?

Yes. Rose gold of a given karat contains exactly as much gold as yellow or white gold of that karat. Only the alloying metals differ. Rose gold plated jewelry is the exception, since the gold there is only a thin surface layer over another metal.

Does rose gold tarnish?

Solid 14k and 18k rose gold does not tarnish in the way silver does. The copper can deepen the color slightly over years, and a professional polish restores it. Rose gold plating is different because it wears through to the base metal.

Is 14k or 18k rose gold pinker?

Usually 14k. It contains less gold and more copper, so the pink reads stronger. 18k rose gold is warmer and softer in color, and closer to yellow gold.
